Abu Qatada, previously named as the right-hand man of Osama bin Laden throughout Europe, has today been granted bail.

He will be entitled to a 22 hour cerfew on his release, based upon the desicion which has been made by the Special Immigration Advisory Tribunal.

Jacqui Smith, home secretary of the United Kingdom, has said she is disappointed at the desicion that has been made by the tribunal, which goes against British Anti-Terror polocies, and has said that all steps will be taken to make sure that the public is protected.

Quatada is known for offering to negotiate the release of Alan Johnston, a BBC journalist which was kidnapped on March, 13 2007 on the Gaza Strip. Johnston was released alive and well later that year.

He was born in Bethlehem in 1960 and has been involved in a number of terrorist attacks on a number of different countries.
